Welcome to Into the Mist!
I am an author of historical fiction currently working on my first novel. Anyone who has written historical fiction or worked on a project involving it knows that there is an incredible amount of research that proceeds the finished project. Research is a word that fills writers with equal parts joy and horror. I can’t tell you how often I’ve fallen down the Wikipedia tunnel and 6 hours and 5,952 tabs later I haven’t answered my original question, but I do have a list of 800 new questions. The struggle is real.
That’s where I hope this blog will come in. Here I will post thoughts about interesting historical tidbits I unearth as well as musings about my journey as I aim to complete my novel this year. I may post an occasional short story here and there that I haven’t been able to convince someone else to publish. I will also post about publications (fingers crossed) and other news that catches my eye.
As a side note, all photographs/writings/crazy lady rants herein are property of the author unless otherwise noted. Please do not replicate or distribute without permission or attribution.
Thanks for joining me on my journey.
Congrats, Love.

Amazing blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring
writers? I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost
on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free
platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There
are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed ..
Any tips? Many thanks!

Hi Audrey,
Thanks for your comment. 🙂 Honestly, the best advice I can give is to read like you’ve never read before. Read everything you can get your hands on. That was one of the best lessons I learned from school. Your writing will improve the more you read. It’s impossible for it not to. And then plant your butt in the chair and write. It doesn’t matter what you write about. Just get in the habit of doing it every day. And remember that first drafts don’t have to be perfect, they just have to be written. I’m still getting started myself. The novel I’m writing now is my first. And I’m afraid that when it comes to websites, I’m pretty clueless. I’m learning as I go. I chose the free option. As far as I can tell, WordPress is the most user friendly–especially if you aren’t computer-savvy.
I hope that was at least a little helpful. Thanks for reading. I appreciate it. 🙂

You can definitely see your enthusiasm within the article you write.
The sector hopes for even more passionate writers like you
who aren’t afraid to mention how they believe. Always follow your heart.

Hello!
I had to run your comment through Google translate, so I’m not sure if it’s completely correct, but if it is–thank you for your kind words! I am trying to make sure I post at least once a week, but recent surgery has put it on hold for a couple weeks. Hopefully I will be up and running again next week.
Thanks for reaching out and Take care,
Melinda

Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed my posts. I am still building the blog, I tend to tweak it a fair amount, as you can see, I’m relatively new to this. I haven’t yet been able to get the contact form to operate the way I want it to. In the meantime, you can follow me on Facebook or twitter. Just send a message saying that you’ve read the blog so I know where the request is coming from. 🙂
Be well!
